VIA has until now released rpm-only drivers (last time I checked they were binary). I started a forum thread (negative campaign bash, jump in and help :) on their linux support ( http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=41397&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear ) to release sources, they even made some bad release where they mixed GPL and propriatary stuff. Anyhow, there is also a alternative free patch by robertk http://robertk.com/source/ that doesn't seem is entering the official kernel sources. Question is wheter gentoo-sources can integrate either propriatary or unofficial patch? I don't really care about the Raid features, I'd be happy just to be able to do access them. I applied the robertk patch to gentoo-sources 2.6.11-r6, drives were found but could not boot (I currently boot of the disks on the other, intel-based controller that's also integrated on the board (ASUS P4P800 Deluxe one for SATA&PATA other controller for PATA only), the disks on the intel controller were not found). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Oops. I was already going to integrate this into gentoo-sources-2.6.11 because it has been now merged upstream for 2.6.12 and beyond. I forgot to do so in the last release. Thanks for the reminder :)
I hope very much that this patch will be down-streamed to 2.6.11 gentoo-sources as it's a good kernel and who knows how long will the kernel development be stalled after the bk affair.
Kernel development never stalled, not even for one day. The patch is already included in the IDE maintainers patch tree, so will be included in either 2.6.12 or 2.6.13.
Included in gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r8
