When bringing up the windowlab window manager (x11-wm/windowlab-1.24) under gentoo-amd64 2005.0, keyboard entry doesn't work. I type, nothing happens. I've googled for problems with windowlab and haven't found anything.

Confirmed with stable (x86) environment.
However, when I tested it with unstable (~x86) box
it worked without a problem. I'll check this later.

I've added new version of windowlab, 1.29, which fixes
the problem described. Please give it a try.
