On an openrc Gentoo with KDE. For the last god knows how many months, Dolphin has been broken. When trying to copy or move files around it gives the following error: "The file or folder Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying does not exist." Also "Move" is no longer an option. Do you start dolphin as the regular user in your session, or do you use kdesu?
I run it from the menu or from the command line, I saw the kdesu thing and tried that the other day, apart from messing up my visual settings it also didn't work, exact same issue/messages.
I can reproduce the error on a system where fuse is installed as a module - if it is not loaded. Starts to work fine after modprobe fuse here. In the forums, several people reported it working after configuring fuse as built-in, maybe just accidentally "fixing" the module being not loaded. One thing to try for you, still.
Fuse is built as a module here, it is already loaded and dolphin still fails. This module has always been built this way on this machine and dolphin used to work. I'm going to rebuild the kernel with this module built into the kernel as a test, I'm not expecting any changes but we'll see.
Even compiling them into the kernel, still fails: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473733#c3
Crashes when I try to drag-and-drop files from the current directory towards other tabs and address bar (I also have the fuse module loaded)
(In reply to Neko-san from comment #6) > Crashes when I try to drag-and-drop files from the current directory towards > other tabs and address bar (I also have the fuse module loaded) One bug per problem please, that's a different one.
Apologies, I was under the impression it might've been related
unmerging desktop portals and/or kio-fuse seemed to fix this issue for me.
and after a while it stops working again. It works for a while when you unmerge kio-fuse and xdg-desktop-portals-kde, while you are in the kde session.
resolved when fuse is loaded.
I've had this same issue for a few weeks, getting the message "The file or Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying does not exist" whenever I try to move a file in Dolphin. I have FUSE compiled directly into the kernel (6.6.33-gentoo). I'm currently running using Hyprland/Wayland. I ran the follwing: > emerge -a --depclean xdg-desktop-portal-kde kio-fuse plasma-meta --verbose and it cleaned kde-plasma/plasma-meta 5.27.11-r1, kde-plasma/xdg-desktop-portal-kde 5.27.11 and kde-misc/kio-fuse 5.0.1_p20230130. Killed all KDE/Dolphin/KIO/Kconnect processes and still run into the same issue. Also added "=kde-apps/dolphin-23.08.5:5::gentoo" to /etc/portage/package.mask and forced a downgrade. Same issue. If I start Dolphin in the foreground, I notice the following message when I do a Ctrl+X/Cut: > kf.coreaddons: Some files could not be exported. QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply", "Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying") And the following when I do a paste (which gives me the "Message recipient" error): > kf.kio.widgets: Failed to check which JobView API is supported "The name org.kde.kuiserver was not provided by any .service files" Not sure what else to try.

(In reply to Sumit Khanna from comment #12) > I've had this same issue for a few weeks, getting the message "The file or > Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying does not > exist" whenever I try to move a file in Dolphin. (In reply to Sam James from comment #14) > try fuse as a module? Finally got around to rebooting/rebuilding the kernel. Yes, FUSE as a module does work (it must manually be modprobed. Dolphin doesn't have to be restarted for move/copy to work after). FUSE builtin does not. So this still seems like a bug. FUSE shouldn't need to be a module; the built-in should work exactly the same.
Sure, it's just not really a downstream bug then other than a missing config check. I agree it's odd.
That config check is in kde-misc/kio-fuse, right where it should be.
(In reply to Andreas Sturmlechner from comment #17) > That config check is in kde-misc/kio-fuse, right where it should be. I don't see any checks in kio-fuse for the fuse kernel option. There's a check for sys-fs/fuse, but those are the userland tools. If it works with the module but not the builtin, wouldn't that be an upstream KDE bug (one that most other distros wouldn't ever run into because they almost always have FUSE built as a module?)
(In reply to Andreas Sturmlechner from comment #17) > That config check is in kde-misc/kio-fuse, right where it should be. We have local CONFIG_CHECK="~FUSE_FS" but I think this doesn't require it to be a module but I'm not 100% sure.
- Yes, because it is not necessary to be a module for the majority of users, including my system here. - Most reports of this kind have had it configured as a module, but not loaded. - There is a strange rare bug where it does not work for some people as a built-in, *or* as a module, and I don't see the pattern.
Sure, I'm just talking about what, if anything, we could do on our end. And that's just make it a module check if we must. But the rest of it is an upstream issue which already exists (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463136).
Ah, I re-read, I misunderstood. Gah.
The only thing we can tell people right now is: If it does not work, flip that option between module <-> built-in, and then there a slim chance it still won't work.
