@zen giftcurs # emerge giftcurs-0.5.2.ebuild -p 

These are the packages that I would merge, in order.

Calculating dependencies \portage: aux_get(): (1) couldn't open cache entry for
net-p2p/giftcurs-0.5.2
(likely caused by syntax error or corruption in the net-p2p/giftcurs-0.5.2 ebuild.)
emerge: create(): aux_get() error on net-p2p/giftcurs-0.5.2; aborting...

if you're running portage 2.0.38 then please say so ... ill re-open bug 7719

yes, i am running 2.0.38

driver@zen driver $ emerge --version
Portage 2.0.38

sorry i didnt mention that before. i rsync'ed emerge again this morning and
still had the same problem. perhaps its gentoo 1.3 ?

are you running this as root ? 
 
if not, if you run it first as root then as non-root, does the error go away ?

thats as root, and then as a user i get exactly the same
so.. same error

and i found the error heh ... someone forgot to put a trailing " on KEYWORDS
