Description wiktorw 2005-04-30 07:39:27 UTC
I couldn't find any signs of mentioned in "The System Console" section
of the guide. Text states that the user should set:

1) UNICODE="yes" in /etc/rc.conf
   (but there's no such variable)

2) KEYMAP="-u <lang>" in /etc/conf.d/keymaps
(but there's no such file, and KEYMAP variable is in /etc/rc.conf).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Expected Results:
/me thinks that the guide should be updated.

I really missed the point where the guide states clearly:

Important: You need >=sys-apps/baselayout-1.11.9 for Unicode on the console.

After unmasking baselayout, readline, sysvinit and bash, all the mentioned files
shown up in right places, and the variables are in right places, too.

But another request should be made then:
Please update the guide to be more specific why >=sys-apps/baselayout-1.11.9
is needed, what it implies, and how to do it.

OTOH, if baselayout makes its way into stable... Then this request would be
probably pointless.
