Description wiktorw 2005-04-30 04:14:33 UTC
Since for 2005.0 handbook the default is to use a stage from CD, the description
of tar flags for files extraction is now AFTER it is referenced by the first time.
See the demonstrative URL for exact copy, but I'll just point it quickly here:

---
5.b. Default: Using a Stage from the Installation CD

We will now extract the stage tarball of your choice. We will do this with the GNU tar tool. Make sure you use the same options (-xvjpf)! Again, the v argument is optional.
---
5.c. Alternative: Using a Stage from the Internet

Make sure that you use the same options (-xvjpf). The x stands for Extract, the v for Verbose to see what happens during the extraction process (okay, yes, this is optional), the j for Decompress with bzip2, the p for Preserve permissions and the f to denote that we want to extract a file, not standard input.
---

So, this is obviously a result of exchanging these sections. The odd thing that
struck me was "Again, the v argument is optional." in 5.b. section, while I was
positively sure that no tar arguments were described yet.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Expected Results:
Put the descriptions of tar options in section 5.b. of the 2005.0 Handbook, before
they could be referenced in, for example, section 5.c.
Someone should see if this problem exists for other architectures too.

Sparc - Is OK
AMD64 - Is OK
PPC - Is OK
PPC64 - Is OK
Alpha - Is OK
HPPA - Is OK
MIPS - Is OK

Will put in a patch (damn small one). If the devs don't get here first.
