Description Ryan Posin 2023-06-29 19:55:01 UTC
On my system, it seemingly attempts to set the date at a resume from suspend as if the epoch is the current time on the RTC.

hwclock reports 2023-06-29 12:46:48.639827-07:00, date reports Fri Dec 25 04:26:08 AM PST 2076.

It happens approximately once every two days, and it has happened about 3 or 4 times now.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Close laptop and let it go into suspend
2. Resume laptop
3. Date sometimes is set to 2076
Actual Results:
It is not 100% of the time reproduce-able, however it has happened more than once.

Expected Results:
Time should set to current time rather than 2076.

System is an HP EliteBook 855 G8, only hardware modification was the replacement of the MediaTek WiFi card with an Intel AX210

This bug doesn't affect me too much since I can just manually run a date --set command, however if someone is running a server there is a chance this bug could pop up on reboot or some other time the clock needs to be set.

Sounds like a kernel issue. What kernel are you using? Please attach your config.

Kernel configuration

Here's the configuration I'm using. It's based off of the binary kernel but with some extra stuff like more power saving modes.

What kernel package are you using that is provided by Gentoo?

Can you attach some logs from before suspend and after resume ?

Next time the issue pops up I'll grab the logs. It's a bit intermittent.

Well it did it again!

Logs show at the most recent time it did it

> Unable to read current time from RTC
Comment 10 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2023-07-08 20:00:18 UTC
Thanks, seems this is already reported and being worked on upstream
Comment 11 Ryan Posin 2023-07-08 20:21:47 UTC
Thanks. I'll watch for something to come through that'll address it. It's strange as on cold boot it's able to grab the RTC time. Suspend issues aren't anything new though.
Comment 12 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2023-08-11 22:25:36 UTC
Nice to see progress on the upstream. We'll follow along and potentially any fix identified

I'm glad to hear progress. Is there a potential kernel version for it to be PR'd into to watch for?
