Description Tim Keitt 2005-04-29 10:12:26 UTC
hpn-ssh gives an enormous increase in bandwidth over a private trusted network by using a null encription algorithm. This is simpler than installing rsh side-by-side with ssh and probably more secure as use of the null cipher can be restricted by network address.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

2.
3.
Comment 1 Tim Keitt 2005-04-29 10:16:17 UTC
It appears this only applies to scp, not ssh and so is not quite as useful as I thought. I guess this is a general request for a null cipher for ssh.
Comment 2 Tim Keitt 2005-05-03 10:17:43 UTC
After a little poking around, I discovered that null encryption was removed from openssh and will not likely come back. hpn-ssh does seem to be one solution for clusters. The other option I found is to specify 'arcfour' as the cipher for your local network. It is supposed to be faster.

hpn-ssh also does buffer tuning, so perhaps could we have that part merged with the main openssh package? It presents no security risks in itself.

See Bug 96717, this may be probably closed...
