I use 1400x1050 on my laptop and there is no matching .cfg or images for this. So I made some (see attached) Seems to work good on my system but I could be off by a pixel or two someplace ;-) It's not my call but space is not a concern, these could be added to the ebuild.

Actually, I guess I should assign this to blackace. blackace: once you get a new "upstream" tarball ready for me, I'll roll a new splash-themes-livecd release. It would probably also be cool to geta few widescreen resolutions in there, too, if possible.
For some reason the attached files dont work on my laptop (using radeonfb @ 1400x1050). Images are not shown and I can read the following in my backlog: No 8bpp verbose picture specified in the theme config. No 8bpp silent picture specified in the theme config.
Hm .. it works on mine and I used it every day. My kernel config line for radeonfb does specify 32bit color though video=radeonfb:1400x10 50-32@60
If there are no 8bpp pictures, you definitely need a mode with a higher bit-depth, and you need to specify the bit depth explicitly on the kernel command line. video=radeonfb:1400x1050-32@60 should be OK.

Ah yes ofcourse... that fixed it.. kinda :P The text (Press F2 for verbose mode or whatever it says" is totally blurred and misplaced... totally unreadable... but thats another story =)
What should the depth be on these files? I'd be happy to do 8 bit or whatever but do not know what is needed.

This has been fixed in splash-themes-livecd-2005.1... don't expect bootsplash to be updated, since we moving away from supporting it, and hope to remove it completely from the tree in the near future.
