Description diamond 2023-06-14 02:58:19 UTC
Currently 7.4.7 long-term support version of LibreOffice is missing in Portage while it is available upstream. See https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/

While I agree it'd be nice to keep the LTS around, I'm not sure we currently have the resources to test and keep up with two branches of LO.

Help welcome if someone is willing to specifically help with it.

We don't package everything from upstream, supporting LTS is always awkward and counter-intuitive on rolling release.
Comment 3 diamond 2023-06-21 06:48:25 UTC
I always thought that support of LTS release is simpler and more reliable than branch for "technology enthusiasts, early adopters or power users". Especially if you have limited human resources.

It's more about supporting two branches.

Plus, being a rolling distro, the latest upstream branch is more often compatible with other new versions of libraries.

And we'd also get users then filing bugs asking for the brand new one.
