See also last comment of 90236 - maybe a hint? I have same problem on AMD64.
Can you please run 'file /bin/date'. If it's statically linked, it's probably the same as bug #90836.
confirmed. I get this bug, and have /bin/date (coreutils) statically linked.
Kevin: confirm/deny your /bin/date is statically linked ?
For me: /bin/date: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
For me: /bin/date: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped Hm.... Perhaps I need to rebuild this executable? My kernel is 2.6.11-gentoo-r3. My /bin/date is from coreutils-5.2.1-r5 and I have a feeling that this was installed from the 2004.3 Universal Install CD for x86. I probably haven't rebuilt that package.
This works for me now. Not sure what changed, but I suppose I can close it. On my last attempt (USE options below), it worked. Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild R ] sys-libs/glibc-2.3.5 -build -debug -erandom -hardened (-multilib) +nls -nomalloccheck +nptl +nptlonly -pic -userlocales 0 kB
