Description Kevin 2005-04-28 12:07:52 UTC
Darn thing gets very close to finishing each time. Fails with:

zh_TW.UTF-8... done
zh_TW.BIG5... done
zu_ZA.UTF-8... done
zu_ZA.ISO-8859-1... done

!!! ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.3.5 failed.

!!! simple run test (/bin/date) failed

I've tried this with USE="-nptl", "nptl", "nptlonly" (one at a time naturally) and all of them break the same way. I saw some other bugs about this version of glibc, but they weren't breaking in the exact same way so I started a new report.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =glibc-2.3.5
2.
3.

Actual Results:
zh_TW.UTF-8... done
zh_TW.BIG5... done
zu_ZA.UTF-8... done

Successful merge.

See also last comment of 90236 - maybe a hint? I have same problem on AMD64.
Comment 2 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-02 01:59:37 UTC
Can you please run 'file /bin/date'. If it's statically linked, it's probably the same as bug #90836.
Comment 3 Peter Gantner (a.k.a. nephros) 2005-05-02 02:18:50 UTC
confirmed. I get this bug, and have /bin/date (coreutils) statically linked.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-05-02 11:16:48 UTC
Kevin: confirm/deny your /bin/date is statically linked ?
Comment 5 Guru Evi 2005-05-03 04:43:57 UTC
For me:

/bin/date: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
Comment 6 Kevin 2005-05-03 05:40:11 UTC
For me:
/bin/date: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

Hm.... Perhaps I need to rebuild this executable? My kernel is 2.6.11-gentoo-r3.

My /bin/date is from coreutils-5.2.1-r5 and I have a feeling that this was installed from the 2004.3 Universal Install CD for x86. I probably haven't rebuilt that package.
Comment 7 Kevin 2005-05-18 17:50:48 UTC
This works for me now. Not sure what changed, but I suppose I can close it.

On my last attempt (USE options below), it worked.
