The answer seems to be no, I copied the ebuild into a local tree and just deleted the kwayland line, compiled fine (assuming you only use X). For people using wayland, compilation just failed.
Maybe we need a new use flag.

(it is related to bug 819939, I'd missed the kwayland bit as well.)

No problems have occurred. 
I used the list from thursday evening and didn't follow up on the latest changes.
I have ignored anything related to +gles2-only useflag.
