Hi, I need to use xmms-crossfade to prevent distortion from creeping into xmms (this error is a problem with the xmms/bmp alsa plugin as I never have the problem with xine or anything else. I recently updated xmms and xmms-alsa so that that I could pause songs (the current versions, r13 produce errors when pause is used. Unfortunately, I get a different sort of distortion (it's harsher and comes up sooner) when I use crossfade on the r14 ebuilds of xmms and xmms-alsa. Is there a way to make available earlier xmms builds again? I think I had absolutely no problems with r12 or r11 (I forgot which).
Additional comments that may help. If you want to test it, run it on a computer with an intel8x0 onboard sound system (AC'97) that has hyperthreading enabled. Without crossfade, distortion will creep into the songs. With crossfade versions prior to this ebuild will have no distortion, but this ebuild will run into it. Best, Alex
what version of xmms-alsa do you have on your system? The xmms-alsa plugin is no longer part of the xmms package itself. Pleasse try the latest version available
The version I had problems with is 1.2.10-r2. Version 1.2.10 works fine. Alex
Yeah I broke out the plugins from the core xmms ebuild to give people more control. xmms-alsa-1.2.10 corresponds to the earlier xmms-1.2.10 ebuilds (I think up through maybe xmms-1.2.10-r5). The plugin was reworked heavily, and -r2 corresponds to the current state in xmms cvs repository. What soundcard are you using as I can't reproduce this problem.
bumping back to herd as I am not going to maintain xmms any more due to absent upstream maintainers
any news on this ? still have the same problem ? this is rather old reopen if you still have the same problem
