Every time I try to emerge Dosbox my Xserver and system lock up while it is compiling the core_modules of Dosbox. My entire system locks up and needs to be restarted by holding down the power button until it finally switches off. 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge dosbox
2.wait
3.

Actual Results:  
The X server locked up and crashed, my processor load went insane and my whole
system needed an unpleasent reboot

Expected Results:  
It should have compiled dosbox in a safe sandbox environment which AFAIK should
preclude this kind of event from happening at all, dosbox should then have been
installed to my system, I am a little unsure if this is a bug in dosbox code or
a bug in portage or gcc... ?

Do you have preempt enabled in your kernel?  If so, remove it as it can cause instability like this.  I can't replicate this behaviour here.

No I don't have preempt enabled precisely because it can cause instability.

Does it lock up the computer when compiling from the shell (when not in X)?  Do any other ebuilds do this?

No response.  Please reopen the bug if it's still a problem.
