A simple 'emerge -u portage' is sufficient.

[ebuild N ] sys-devel/gcc-config-1.3.10-r2 0 kB
[cut here... rest of packages never emerged in next step]
2.emerge -e system

Actual Results:
packages up to portage are emerged then portage restarts itself and reemerges
packages up to portage, when it restarts itself... and so on.
I've watched it today several times... (I'm dooing emerge system now (like it
was mentioned in installation guide in 2003(?)))

Expected Results:
It should emerge the system :)

Building stages with ~arch is neither tested nor supported.
