Description b.eggleston 2005-04-23 22:26:55 UTC
When searching for packages, often you know exactly what package you want to find (eg qt). But when entering "qt" in the search box, you have to scroll though (sometimes many pages) to find that package.

It would be a very nice feature if packages which exactly match the search string were displayed first.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

This will probably get added eventually, but did you know that searches are
regular expressions, so if you want the exact package, "qt" you can enter "^qt$"
as your search experession.

"Me too". Search for "gnome" comes up as result number 101. I am glad I
searched for this bug - thanks for mentioning the workaround.

Searching for sed gives hundreds of results. The actual sed package shows up
over 450 results in. I too would like the described behavior (ie: if exact
match, then show that package as the first result).

I'll add my name in to the list of people that would love to see this.

(I didn't know that I could enter a regex there, and I will certainly do that
from now on, but it's not really an acceptable solution for the masses.)

This has (finally) been implemented. Thanks for your patience.
