Hi, There is an (acknowledged) error in the 2.4.19 kernel that prohibits the use of the promise ATA133 RAID chipset as found on some Motherboards (MSI KT3 Ultra Aru, to name one, mine). There is an acknowledgement of this error on the kernel mailing list, will add references later. This bug makes it inpossible to install Gentoo on a RAID only system from the live-cd. Will post further details later.
Affected Promise Chip: RAID bus controller: Promise Technology, Inc. PDC20276 IDE (rev 01) Thread on LKML where this problem is being discussed: http://www.uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0207.2/0372.html The fix that is talked about, (changing a ifdef to ifndef) worked for me, but I had to boot from a Gentoo 1.2 cd to install.
Thank you very much for this bug report. It will be fixed in the final 1.4 release.
Hey viz, can you get this fix into our kernel for me? Thanks :)
Hello, this should be fixed in Linux Kernel 2.4.20: From the Changelog of Linux 2.4.20: "<marcelo@freak.distro.conectiva>: o Do not skip Promise ataraid's: they used to work fine with pdcraid"
Hi, This is the same report as bug 8163 ,since the 2002122300 LiveCD this has been solved. I have exactly the same motherboard and I can confirm that it's working perfectly. This bug can be closed
Thanks. Closing bug now.
