The LDAP client configuration needs /etc/openldap/ldap.conf as well as /etc/ldap.conf. /etc/openldap/ldap.conf can simply be copied over from the server, but it's gotta be there.
If its is not there, would LDAP auth fail/not work? Because no matter what I try, I can't seem to get LDAP auth working on Gentoo.
That is correct. At least using the setup in this guide, it's definitely needed.
Alright. Will check this out on Monday first thing.
I can't seem to make LDAP work even with the file in place. Dang.
The bug is valid; /etc/openldap/ldap.conf is the configuration for the LDAP environment, client and server. /etc/ldap.conf is for nss_ldap/pam_ldap. Fixed in CVS now.
