Description Mark 2005-04-21 19:19:55 UTC
Server is older PIII dual cpu Compaq 1850R. Previously i was able to get it working with an older build (2.4.21) using "smp doscsi noapic". Back then the 2.6 kernel did not detect both cpu's either. Have tried many different ways of booting off the latest cd's, no luck.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot from 2005.0 cd
2. type "gentoo doscsi"

Actual Results:
only loads one cpu "motherboard is not detected as SMP motherboard"

Expected Results:
CPU 0 - Pentium III (Katmai) 598 MHz 512k
CPU 1 - Pentium III (Katmai) 598 MHz 512k

Hrrrmn... what if you try "gentoo noapic" when you boot?
Comment 3 Mark 2005-04-22 06:33:25 UTC
i get the same result when I try "gentoo noapic".
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-15 12:30:11 UTC
Want to bet it doesn't work with 2005.1, either?
Comment 5 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-03 11:24:56 UTC
Can you try with 2005.1, please?

If 2005.1 does not work, please REOPEN this bug. I'm hoping that the newer
kernel in 2005.1 resolves this issue.

A new post in the forums actually helped me fix it.

Going into the BIOS on the Compaq 1850R and changing the OS from "Other" to
"Unixware 7" then reboot and 2 cpus are working.

Thanks!

Excellent!

Thanks for the tip! Hopefully others will find it useful.
