MPlayer and XMMS crash when trying to use Xvideo on xorg-x11-6.8.99.3 on VIA EPIA MII. In both cases, there is the same error message:

BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Unmask and emerge xorg-x11-6.8.99.3
2. Run applications that display stuff using Xvideo

Actual Results:  
The application crashed and gave the following error message:

BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

Expected Results:  
Showed video in fullscreen or window using Xvideo acceleration.

did this work with regular xorg?

It works with the 6.8.2-r1 version of xorg.

Not invalid, this is in portage.
