Description Paul Osmialowski 2023-02-05 09:06:20 UTC
In the spirit of the bugs 891363 and 893120 I would like the ppc stabilization of the latest stable version of dev-libs/cyrus-sasl to be considered.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2023-02-05 15:59:55 UTC
It was de-stabilised in commit 0f7318a98f7076888a0815ba509ca9ea136450eb, together with a lot of other packages, probably for a good reason?

Where can I read the rationale behind such decision?

In this case, IIRC, it was that Kerberos (mit-krb5 at least) was broken on ppc, and we weren't aware of any users of the whole sasl/krb5/... stack, so we dropped it and nobody complained until now.

Happy to put it back if you're using it. It's hard to tell the difference for some things between "stabled because someone asked for it once in 2005" and "someone actually uses it".

THere's generally quite a lot of big-endian (and 32-bit) bugs so trying to prioritise is important.

None of my PPC hosts survived, so I guess this has no relevance anymore.
