there's a blue bar appearing on the right side of the video overlay window using xv with the i815 chipset. i think there is a patch somewhere: http://groups.google.de/groups?q=i810+xv+blue+bar&hl=de&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=20021004230300.GZ13002%40deadbeast.net&rnum=2
Jan, can you test xfree-4.3.0-r2 please?
i tested xfree4.3.0-r2. the blue bar is five times bigger now and everything is shifted to the left.
Hi Jan, I've bumped the ebuild to use patch_ver="1.1.4" which contains a patch for your i810 issue. Please test and report.
Jan?
there are some problems building xfree86-4.3.0-r3. the md5sum for XFree86-compose.dir.bz2 fails and x11/xterm is masked. i tried various mirrors, no change. any ideas?
no, please try -r2 again. You'll need to delete the XFree86.compose.dir.bz2 from your distfiles and download it again, please.
i've already deleted XFree86-compose.dir.bz2, there's still the same problem after download, even with -r2. ?
please download from the oregonstate mirror
Jan, any success? If not, please try xfree-4.3.0-r3 (grep for PATCH_VER to ensure it is 2.1.2) because I added an i8x0 patch. Please report results.
Hi! Having the same problem as Jan Knipper here, that is to say a ~200 pixel wide blue bar in the middle of a fullscreen playback. I upgraded to 4.3-r3 (patch ver 2.1.2) last night yet that doesn't seem to solve the issue.
same thing here, no changes with patch ver 1.1.5/1.1.4 or 2.1.2.
http://bugs.xfree86.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=213 The problem was reported upstream
Now I can't use the xv video out device on my i810. The whole thing is just blue.

I found this in debian's bug-trasking system: http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2002/debian-x-200210/msg00428.html Might this be the same problem?
Unfortunately, we weren't able to fix this: * patch #009: deleted; didn't do what it was supposed to, and caused other Xv problems in i810 (Closes: #166234) That's from the 4.2.1-5 changelog. So, it looks like we're in the same ^^^^ that's the response from the debian x maintainer (Daniel Stone) when I asked him about it a few weeks ago, so they still have that issue
I was having the same "whole blue screen" problem described, with the last two revisions of XFree4.3. What I had to do to fix this is to undo part of patch 5750_all_4.2.1-i8x0-xv.patch (more specifically, the lines 1624 and 1625). I suppose the patch would only fix the blue bar problem for a subset of chipsets under the i810 class, but ended up making it even worse for another subset. Unfortunately, I lack the necessary knowledge to propose a permanent fix for this, but I was hoping this would help you guys figure it out. My card is detected as a Intel Corp. 82810E DC-133 GMCH [Graphics Memory Controller Hub] (rev 3). Let me know if you need any aditional info.
I was having the problem of no video overlay, just a blue screen, which began after I rebuild version 4.3.0-r2 of xfree a few weeks ago. The i810 DRI maintainers appear to have fixed this problem in the latest CVS, and they provide binaries and an install shell script. See this thread - http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=479149#479149 - on the Gentoo Forums. I wonder if it may be more worthwhile to modify the ebuild to use this rather than try to patch the old version?
This was also a problem for me, with xfree-4.3.0-r3 and my i810. Neither xv or sdl worked with mplayer (entire movie area was blue). I downloaded / used i810-20030829-linux.i386.tar.bz2 from dri.sf.net as per forum recommendation, and it worked after I fixed the symlinks to libGL. Thanks Ian!

I know this might sound somewhat bad to ask, but does this also happen when running X as root? (I did some reading through the code last night, and just curious)
I was getting the blue screen problem with XFree86-4.3.99-902.r2.ebuild. It turned out that 5750_all_4.2.1-i8x0-xv.patch is broken. I removed the patch from the ebuild and it now works perfectly. Please could we have an r3 ebuild with this patch removed? Thanks.
Please test 4.3.0-r6.
4.3.0-r6 fixes the problem for me.
The problem persists for me. Isn't this bug a dup of #213 (http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213)? Besides when im lowering horizsync to about 30-50hz with a resolution of 1024x768 the video is displayed perfectly.
stupid me. i was browsing the xfree bugzilla. nevertheless this bug is related to the xfree bug #213 i think.
stupid me. ignore the bug #213 comment.
xfree-4.3.0-r6 no longer fixes this for me - bug 53226 indicated -r6 was replaced by a security fix. -r7 does not merge, as a patch fails to apply - is there any way to apply this fix to -r6 until an official fix is filed? Or perhaps a stable ebuild with the fix?
I also have an i815 system, and recently updated from xfree 4.3.0-r5 to 4.3.0-r6, but I still have the blue screen in xvideo mode for mplayer. This appears to be a very old bug...is it going to be fixed anytime soon?
Under xfree-4.3.0-r6 the whole xvideo window is blue, removing 5750_all_4.2.1-i8x0-xv.patch fixed the problem for me.
Xorg.x11 provides great xvideo output and DRI. Works perfectly with the same XF86Config. Unmerged xfree, emerged Xorg. That's it. Email me if you want a copy of my XF86Config. My motherboard: lowly Intel 82810E :) was wary of X.org for quite some time but this has convinced me.
