Description Andreas Mair 2023-01-17 13:05:58 UTC
Hi,

I saw the notice that games-engines/residualvm will be removed soon:

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- games-engines/residualvm-9999::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/var/db/repos/gentoo/profiles/package.mask:
# James Le Cuirot <chewi@gentoo.org> (2022-12-14)
# Merged into games-engines/scummvm a while back. No longer maintained upstream.
# Removal in 30 days.

I use residualvm to play Monkey Island 4 which isn't supported in latest games-engines/scummvm-2.6.1. Maybe it's simply not enabled when building, but then I didn't manage to enable it.

Console output when trying to start the game in scummvm:
User picked target 'monkey4-win-de' (engine ID 'grim', game ID 'monkey4')...
 Looking for a plugin supporting this target... Grim
 Running Escape From Monkey Island (Windows/German)
 artAll.m4b: 007a33881478be6b6e0228d8888536ae, 18512568 bytes.
 WARNING: Grim failed to instantiate engine: Game id not supported (Escape from Monkey Island support is not compiled in) (target 'monkey4-win-de', path '/mygamesdir/mi4')!

Regards,
Andreas

You need to build ScummVM with USE="mpeg2 unsupported" for that game to work.

Thanks for the hint! "mpeg2" was missing. I had no idea that it could be that USE flag.
