I set screensaver to blank screen. I click Desktop->Lock Screen, the display locks ok. I disable screensaver. I click Desktop->Lock Screen, nothing happens. I understand that screen-saving and locking are handled by the same program, but they really are different things. I may not want to have a screensaver, this should not prevent me from locking the display. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.disable screensaver 2.try to lock the screen Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.3-20050110, glibc-2.3.4.200 50125-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r6 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r6 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.6.10 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, Feb 18 2005, 10:59:12)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r8 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.14 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r4 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-g0 -O3 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4 -msse2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointe r -momit-leaf-frame-pointer -funit-at-a-time -ftracer -mfpmath=sse" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share /config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/ mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-g0 -O3 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4 -msse2 -pipe -fomit-frame-poin ter -momit-leaf-frame-pointer -funit-at-a-time -ftracer -mfpmath=sse -fvisibilit y-inlines-hidden" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.ITDNet.net/gentoo" LANG="en_US.utf8" LC_ALL="en_US.utf8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common -Wl,--strip-all" LINGUAS="en" MAKEOPTS="-j4" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X aac aalib acl acpi alsa apache2 arts avi bash-completion berkdb bitma p-fonts bonobo cdr crypt cups curl dba doc dvd dvdr emboss encode esd flac fooma ticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile hal howl im agemagick imlib ipv6 ithreads java jpeg junit kde kdeenablefinal ldap libg++ lib www mad mikmod mmap mmx mmxext mono motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls npt l nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib perl pic plotutils png postgres pthread s python qt quicktime readline sdl session sharedmem slang spell sse sse2 ssl sv ga tcltk tcpd tetex threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb vhosts vorbis xml xml2 xv zlib linguas_en" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET
There are so many bugs upstream about it and is somehow GNOME design issue, so this shouldn't block GNOME 2.10 release
Lazy me :) Seemes to be http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79469 Closing, sorry for the noise.
