xkb can't compile any keymaps on a livecd. Solution is provided here:

We don't set Xkbrules with Xorgautoconfig, does it need to be set in order for this to work?  Xorg should default to "xorg" or "base" if this isn't set, which should fix this problem.  Or do we definitely need to link our xkb maps to tmp?
