dev-libs/libayatana-appindicator and dev-libs/libayatana-indicator are the only appindicators implementation that are still maintained and developped, while libappindicator are unmaintained for ages. OpenSUSE already migrated and Debian is ongoing, thanks to that, fixes exist for most of the reverse deps. The route is to simply switch to the newer implementation whenever is possible and try to reduce as much as possible the usage of the old impl. Thanks
Please ensure that libayatana-indicator and libayatana-appindicator have the same keywording/stable status as libindicator and libappindicator before asking maintainers to update dependencies.
The keywording was already done in bug 887173... for stabling I was simply waiting for new revisions of the demanding packages to be stabilized and stabilize them when needed (specially thinking on some "exotic" arches that may not be needed at present times)
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #2) > The keywording was already done in bug 887173... I had to drop the ppc keyword on net-p2p/transmission when I added a dependency on dev-libs/libayatana-indicator.

The it was that I forgot to CC it because I missed ppc ... I will reopen it thanks for noticing
