see attachment also note that this is not my normal computer, so the emerge --info will be different (in case a dev gets two of my bugs)

Created attachment 55945 [details] gtk+ emerge and `emerge --info` sorry, i didn't include stderr in the last one, making it kind of worthless :-P Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r5 i686 Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.6.10 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, Mar 11 2005, 13:45:22)] ccache version 2.4 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r8 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.14 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r4 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-Os -march=pentium4 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/alias /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-Os -march=pentium4 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X aalib acpi aim alsa apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dba dvd emboss encode esd fam flac fluxbox font-server foomaticdb fortran ftp gd gd-external gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 guile icq imagemagick imap imlib java jikes jpeg junit libg++ libwww mad mbox mikmod mmx mmx2 motif mozilla mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl nptlonly oggvorbis opengl pam pcmcia pdflib perl php png posix ppds python quicktime readline samba sdl spell sse sse2 ssl svga tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev usb vim xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
This is not a problem with the package. libtool: link: `//usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.3/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive indicates that you have switched gcc versions and did not run fix_libtool_files.sh Have a look at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-279020.html
Heinrich is right
