Description Georgi Georgiev 2005-04-10 19:47:15 UTC
The modules built by vmware-workstation cause Ooops on a 2.6.12-rc2 kernel

The problem is known and fixed upstream, as can be seen on https://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?forumID=19&threadID=15142&messageID=160286

The recommended fix is to install any-any-update-90. It does not patch the executables.

I added the stuff to my overlay and confirmed that it does indeed fix the problems.

Which version(s) of vmware-workstation?
Comment 2 Georgi Georgiev 2005-04-11 06:10:36 UTC
All of them.

Quoting from the vmware forums:

> Kevin, this is known problem. For now users cannot run any VMware product on
> 2.6.12-rc2. It is unfortunate that change went out few days after WS5 was

and the next post says

> it should fix these oopses.

I have personally only confirmed version 5

I've updated the ebuilds in CVS, so this should be resolved.
