The backlight on a Lenovo ThinkPad P52 is no longer controllable after updating to x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-525.60.11. When pressing the Fn key with the brightness + or brightness - button, KDE indicates the brightness is increased or decreased (so the Fn key combination is responding), but the brightness itself on the laptop screen does not increase or decrease. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Use a Lenovo ThinkPad P52 2.Use gentoo-sources-5.15.80 (or any other 5.15.x kernel) 3.Install x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-525.60.11 4. Try to control the brightness using Fn with F5 and F6 Actual Results: The brightness does not increase or decrease Expected Results: The brightness increasing or decreasing I'm running gentoo-sources-5.15.80 as kernel and I set graphics card to discrete graphics card as only graphics card in the BIOS / UEFI configuration (as it as a MUX chip).

Note: Downgrading to x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-515.86.01 resolves the issue as a workaround, but due to several features being supported, I'd like to use the 525.xx drivers instead.
Sorry, I don't think there's anything I can do about this. It's become famous that some branches work and don't work for brightness depending on hardware, and I can't do anything about closed source drivers beside wait for the next release (I don't have affected hardware to test myself too). May want to try to report to nvidia instead.
May possibly be same as $URL, it's the most recent brightness related report anyway (there's been a lot on nvidia's forums). (In reply to Ionen Wolkens from comment #3) > closed source drivers Well, some bits are open now but not that development and ways to find regressions really are.
(In reply to Ionen Wolkens from comment #3) > May want to try to report to nvidia instead. Ah, see you already did: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/brightness-on-a-lenovo-thinkpad-p52-no-longer-controllable-after-updating-nvidia-drivers-to-525-xx-series
Yes, I can understand that there's not a lot you can do. I reported it both here and on the NVIDIA forum, as I wasn't sure where I'd need to report it first. I compiled the driver without the open-gpu-kernel-driver by the way, as it's not supported on Pascal generation GPU's.
