Description Jan Kundrát (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-06 11:03:28 UTC
Hi,
I'm subscribed to the bug 85940 which is pretty long. In past (<30 replies?)
I've been receiving mail notifications regularly, but (at least I think so)
after the number of comments/patches on the bug got over some size, the e-mail
messages are being sent only "groupped". See this example:

[BEGIN of example]
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85940

neysx@gentoo.org changed:

[END of example]

So it seems that there's something which is trying to reduce amount of mail
traffic, but fails. If you look at the history of the bug, you'll see that
delays between the updates are quite long (hours), not just minutes or
seconds.

I've tried to enable sending mails to myself even when I make an action at the
bug, but the problem persists.

After I make some action (creating patch, making comment etc.), I *do* see the
bugzilla message "email sent to..." *including* my e-mail address, but I don't
receive any confirmation when neysx@g.o makes a change, I receive it only
after I make something myself.

I'll ask Xavier if he has the same problems.
Comment 1 Xavier Neys (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-06 15:29:38 UTC
AFAIK, there is no problem at all unless common bugzilla behaviour how I know it is the problem. I've always seen it behave like that. You get notified after a new attachment comes in or after an additional comment is posted. Some other changes like altering the mime type of an attachment do not trigger a new notification but are rather mentioned on the next notification.
I've never seen it as a bug but I understand the confusion it creates. It's got nothing to do with the number of comments or attachments.

re comment 1:

If you look at the mail I've attached, you'll ses that I haven't received
your comment "Committed. Thanks.". Maybe adding comments to attachements is
not handled as normal comments? Could you try to add comment to the bug 85940, wait a few minutes and then add one more, without touching attachements?

BTW, IIRC I *did* received several notifications some time ago when you changed more attachements at once...
Comment 3 Xavier Neys (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-07 15:42:46 UTC
FYI, we receive exactly the same notifications.
It's just as described in comment #1.
Number of comments or attachments has no influence.
Comment 4 Jan Kundrát (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-09 07:15:20 UTC
OK, so "adding comments from attachement update" is not same as "adding
comments" or "adding comments from new attachement"?

Maybe I should report it upstream...
Comment 5 Jeffrey Forman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-12 20:45:53 UTC
Seems this is not a bugzilla issue. Works for me.
