Description David Morgan 2005-04-06 10:14:18 UTC
The last message I received from the gentoo-media list was dated 11th March

Since then, I've received 4 emails telling me that mails to me from the ML have been bouncing - messages 19, 20, 21 and 24, on 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th of April respecitvely (I don't know what happened to messages 22 and 23)

I'm not the only one who's been receiving notices about bounced messages from this list, and I'm subscribed to quite a few other gentoo mls and rarely get bounced message notices on those, so I think there might be a problem with this list

It's a problem with your address. Here's the probe output:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----

Comment 2 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-06 10:18:07 UTC
Actually that was caused by some spam on the list. So gmail was right in blocking
those addresses.
Comment 3 David Morgan 2005-04-06 10:23:04 UTC
Are you saying that the emails in question were spam?

Or that other emails were spam and so gmail blocked non-spam mails?

btw, luckyduck has had a similar problem and is using his @g.o address to forward to his own mail server

Feel free to mark this as resolved X if you think there's no problem with the list - I'm not sure what the right X is
Comment 4 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-06 10:30:29 UTC
Those posts on gentoo-media were actually spam with some odd attachment, so
gmail blocked them and the list server marked you as a bounced address.

1) I should find a way to block that spam in the first place
2) I should check that your address won't be unsubscribed after 5 days because of
   this spam.

Anyway you should receive legit posts without problems.

I'll leave this bug open until I've sorted out 1) and 2).

Please report here if you see spam on that list again.

Thx

Comment 5 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-06 10:32:27 UTC
Ok I need coffee probably.

A probe will be sent to your address and despite the spam you will be de-listed
from the bounces addresses.

So everything is just fine (except for the spam that I need to block).
Comment 6 David Morgan 2005-04-09 03:05:39 UTC
You said to let you know if there was any more spam, so...

messages 25 and 26 on the -media list bounced - presumably they were spam
Comment 7 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-09 03:53:57 UTC
Indeed they are :/ I just placed some filters for that spammer. Please let me know if it happens again. Thx
Comment 8 Jan Brinkmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-09 15:05:57 UTC

Comment 9 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-10 02:32:23 UTC
Yeah that was another spam post, odd because I have filters for that spammers now. I've changed the filters a little bit, let's see if I can catch it.
Comment 10 David Morgan 2005-04-10 03:29:36 UTC
Message 27 bounced, which I think is newer than any that have been commented on so far
Comment 11 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-10 03:32:10 UTC
It's the one from the last two comments.
