Connect to internet fails with USB-cable on Profilic 2303 chip Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: I just start connection. Then, I installed fresh system to another hard-drive and maked new kernel configuration with the same result. Actual Results: I have installed gentoo-linux (linux-2.6.11-gentoo-r5) with udev. Then the cable is plugged, my system makes device USB0 under /dev/tts/ with major number 188 and minor number 0 and creates symlink "ttyUSB0" under /dev/. Wvdial says in log: bash-2.05b$ wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0 --> Cannot open /dev/tts/USB0: Cannot get information for serial port. --> Cannot open /dev/tts/USB0: Cannot get information for serial port. --> Cannot open /dev/tts/USB0: Cannot get information for serial port. Kppp says in log: Mar 27 18:58:23 nerff pppd[12817]: pppd 2.4.2 started by nerff, uid 500 Mar 27 18:58:23 nerff pppd[12817]: Using interface ppp0 Mar 27 18:58:23 nerff pppd[12817]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/tts/USB0 Mar 27 18:58:26 nerff pppd[12817]: CHAP authentication succeeded Mar 27 18:58:27 nerff pppd[12817]: LCP terminated by peer Mar 27 18:58:30 nerff pppd[12817]: Connection terminated. With RS-232 cable connection works fine. And on Mandrake 10-10.1+USB it works. Expected Results: Just make connection pppd 2.4.2, kppp 2.2.0, wvdial 1.54.0, gentoo-sourses 2.6.11-5, udev-045
what net-libs/wvstreams version do you have?
It's wvstreams-4.0.1-r2. I have updated the version of the program after discussion of my problem at a forums.gentoo.org - http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-318264.html http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-314703.html - in Russian branch of a forum
the "Cannot get information for serial port" message doesn't exist in wvstreams-4.0.1-r2. are you sure you receive this message?
Yes, it was before I update wvstreams. Now in wvdial log I have: ====================================== bash-2.05b# wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0 --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.sib" AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.sib" OK --> Modem initialized. --> Sending: ATD*99***1# --> Waiting for carrier. you should set "Carrier Check" to false. also, setting stupid mode to true may help.
did you solved your problems?
Yes, when I setting stupid mode to true, wvdial connects in about 60% times.
I'm setting this bug as invalid then
