After much playing around with nvidia on my Compaq Presario R3000 (amd64 Gentoo with GeForce4 440 Go 64M), Nvidia-1.0.7174 works perfectly after kernel upgrade to 2.6.11-whatever **IF** you add the next two lines to the bottom of the /etc/modules.d/nvidia file:

options nvidia NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0

we have a policy that says that new versions of packages will keep testing for 30 days if they're not security-related. we'll mark it stable per 1st may if there are no problems
Comment 3 Michael E. Adams 2005-04-11 02:09:23 UTC
Note that once gentoo released the 2.6.11-r6 for amd64, the nvidia driver started acting up again. I did find that things were more well behaved once I upgraded my system BIOS to the most recient version. I have no trouble changing screen resolutions. However, every now and then, the driver does not start up the first time.
