I visit:
     http://bugs.gentoo.org/
.  I type the query in the search box:
     ALL frozen-bubble SCALAR 169
and get exactly one result, bug 87032.

I then click the Query link, which takes me to:
     http://bugs.gentoo.org/query.cgi
which comes up to "Find a specific bug".  Leaving the dropdowns set to "Open" and "All", I type the query:
     frozen-bubble SCALAR 169
in the text box and search, and I get 31 open bugs.

I see no reason why the front page search should be so dramatically different from the basic query page.  It looks to me like the front page search is therefore broken.

I have since updated the front page on our test install, which should be implemented shortly.
