Description Brian Pankey 2005-04-01 18:32:57 UTC
xosd-2.2.14 (the latest on the developers website being 2.2.12..??) fails to set the property for Font correctly. emerge gaimosd or xosd with +xmms USE flag and go into the osd options screen. xmms shows only the font name, but this isn't what xosd needs. gaimosd shows "-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" which is the proper format but when you click "select font", the * should be changed to actual values, but this doesnt't happen.

2.2.12 is for SOME REASON out of the portage tree so I tried 2.2.10 and it works perfectly. The correct string looks like "-microsoft-comic sans ms-medium-r-normal-*-26-*-*-*-p-*-microsoft-cp1252".

Copying and pasting that string from a machine with 2.2.10 installed, over to this machine with 2.2.14 installed seems to work in xmms and beep-media-player but not gaim.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =xosd-2.2.14
2. enable plugin in said app and configure it
3. view Font textbox after you try to configure the font

To me, this is a MAJOR problem because first, I've no idea how 2.2.14 got
released when the developer hasnt gone past 2.2.12 and not being able to
configure this plugin is defeating the purpose for even using this feature. :(

sorry for the delay, works fine here
Comment 4 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-10 08:09:22 UTC
can you still reproduce it? works fine here.
Comment 5 Brian Pankey 2005-07-11 04:41:39 UTC
Yes it still does not work. In GaimOSD preferences, it shows -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
*-*-*-*-*-* instead of the normal string with the font settings and size, etc.
Have you tried it with GaimOSD?? Im not in gentoo atm but im using the latest
gaim, gaimosd and xosd.

it saves new font string in config only if you press "enter" key in this entry-box

xmms removed, gaim dead. If you can reproduce this issue with some application that actually exists in the tree and is supported, then reopen.
