Starting with the recently stabilized sys-kernel/dracut-056-r1, running dracut with the --lzo option is calling out to an external "lzo" utility. However, this utiility does not appear to be available in Gentoo that I can see anyway, so the compression does not work correctly (it does not actually fail but just runs gzip instead). As far as can see we only have "lzop" packaged. The previous stable version (dracut-055-r4) finds and uses the "lzop" command instead. This appears to be a regression introduced by this commit: https://github.com/dracutdevs/dracut/commit/bdac657bf65615438942a872491a818750735014 Please report the issue upstream.
Should be fixed in the latest version.
