latest release (version 0.8.8 - released a month ago) fixes this problem.
the ebuild for 0.8.7 can simply be renamed to 0.8.8 and will work fine!

kdetv-0.8.8 in portage, closing. Besides, avifile is pending removal (Bug 111336).
