Sometimes that happens. I'd suggest getting it from another mirror. The correct md5sum is: edbd721a2a4970977dfe5f45d9e38923
I have had this problem on other ebuilds. I am not a programmer but.. I suggest that when portage finds a sum error it delete the downloaded file and re-try the download and install. I had all kinds of problems until I realized simply deleting the file and re-running emerge fixed it.
Closing. I think newer portage versions should be smarter... anyway, you can file an enhancement request for the portage team in case.
