Appears to be RDEPEND, should only be DEPEND.

Uh.. same here too, in fact, there isn't even an RDEPEND at all for the ebuilds... Thanks for posting and using Gentoo!

Okay, lets get this straight.

In the case of RDEPEND missing, RDEPEND is set to ${DEPEND} ,  pkg-config is a build-time only requirement  ( unless in special cases where its referred to in something like /usr/bin/bmp-config )   not a runtime one.


This is simply part of an effort of tracking down strange and miscalculated dependencies.
