Bug 86994 – ipw2200-1.0.2 segfaults loading modules

ipw2200-1.0.2 segfaults when loading and then borks modprobe failing the rest of the modules and blocking the rest of the boot process.
Developers of ipw2200 are aware, but ebuild shoiuyld be hard masked?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -u ipw2200
2.
3.

Actual Results:  
borks boot 

Expected Results:  
successfull start.

Have you tried the patch from http://www.bughost.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=616

If that works for you, I will add it to the ebuild.

Portage seems to carry a different tgz than the one on the ipw2200 site, so the patch failed for me with the one portage downloaded.  Downloading the one from the ipw2200 site and redigesting and applying the patch works for me.

I wanted to test but was unable to apply the patch to the tarball that portage has.  Since I don't really know how to calculate the digest, I can't test any further.  Needless to say I am affected by this problem as well.

Reporter, please see if net-wireless/ipw2200-1.0.3 fixes this problem (it includes the mentioned patch).
