Description Christian Ashby 2005-03-28 05:02:55 UTC
In the handbook, it isn't clear that the GRP installation is only possible with the portage snapshot from the universal CD.

In the end, I got the snapshot from the UK mirror service, which allows you to extract certain files from ISOs at download time.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
N/A

Expected Results:
I suggest a comment like 'If downloading the minimal CD, be aware that it is
not possible to install with GRP' and a similar note in the GRP explanation.

Better, have the portage snapshot in the packages ISO...

You can download a portage snapshot from a mirror if you are using the minimal CD, but I agree it should be noted in the 2005.0 handbook.

On the mirrors, portage snapshots are located in the [base]/snapshots directory.

I'll reinstate the GRP information in the first chapter and inform people that those interested should use the networkless installation approach. I'm not going to start informing you how to do a GRP with a Minimal InstallCD since that handbook is for _current_ installations (which can be different from the release instructions after a while).

Fixed. BTW, we do tell where to get "a" Portage snapshot, but not "the" Portage snapshot (the one used for building the release).
