Hopefully this is the right bugzilla section. I unmasked and merged xmms-xmmsmplayer-0.5 on amd64, audio/video seems to work correctly from xmms. Seems to work for me, and several other users have reported successes. Last known failure was for eradicator in June 2004, so I'm going to keyword ~amd64 and I ask that users kindly test and report back here with success or failure.
