Description Vania 2005-03-26 07:24:32 UTC
ran emerge --update --deep world and found error on callgrind. Callgrind was apparently installed as dependancy to some other install, and I am still new enough to gentoo to know what info to provide.

I did find that when I unmerge valgrind (the dependancy which is named) and then try to emerge callgrind, I find I get valgrind 2.4, and then callgrind error again shows it is looking for valgrind 2.0/2.2.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --unmerge valgrind
2. emerge callgrind
3.

Actual Results:
...
...
checking for valgrind installation... in /usr
checking if vg_skin.h is available... configure: error: No. Needs header files
from Valgrind (2.0.x/2.2.x).
Perhaps a valgrind-dev package is missing in your installation?

Caleb: You're the only one who touched it, but maybe it's better if the one who maintains valgrind does callgrind, too!?
Comment 2 Richard Morris 2005-03-27 01:05:57 UTC
Hi,

I've just had the same error as above on a new install after running
emerge kde-meta

Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3-20050110, glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 i686)

I've hacked the ebuild to enable me to continue.
Comment 3 Richard Morris 2005-03-27 01:10:40 UTC
Created attachment 54577 [details, diff]
Horrible patch to force the ebuild to use dev-util/valgrind-2.2.0-r2
Comment 4 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-27 11:48:17 UTC
You could better use a =dev-util/valgrind-2.2* dependency. That would fix things.
Comment 5 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-28 05:34:11 UTC
Added the blocking version dep like noted above.
Comment 6 Francesco R. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-28 14:57:15 UTC
yeah it worked now, you saved me to fill the 5th bug in a row ;)
