Would you consider adding ESS to portage?  I would be happy to help out if
necessary.  There are many former Mandrake users who are die-hard R and ESS
users now making the jump to Gentoo.  Adding ESS would be extremely helpful.

if you use XEmacs the package for ess will be in portage very soon

i can write up an ebuild for ess for Emacs, but that will take me longer
