I tried to bootstrap my system with the 2005-rc5 livecd, with the 2005-011005 snapshot of the stage1 tarball. I am using the nptl method from the forums. When I get to the glibc emerge during bootstraping, it error when installing the man pages. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. cd /usr/portage 2. scripts/bootstrap.sh Actual Results: * Installing man pages... ls: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot handle TLS data !!! ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.3.4.20050125-r1 failed. !!! Function toolchain-glibc_src_install, Line 489, Exitcode 127 !!! simple run test (ls) failed !!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message. Expected Results: Installed the man pages. livecd root # cat /mnt/gentoo/info Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.3-20050110, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4 [2.3.4 (#1, Jan 11 2005, 18:27:07)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4 sys-devel/autoconf: [Not Present] sys-devel/automake: [Not Present] sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r7 sys-devel/libtool: [Not Present] virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig buildpkg ccache distcc distlocks sandbox sfperms userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo-distfiles.mirrors.tds.net/ http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowex X aac aim alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 bzlib ccache cddb cdr chroot crypt cups curl dba dbase dbmaker directfb distcache dvb dvd dvdr emboss encode escreen fbcon festival filepro flac font-server foomaticdb fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gimpprint gmail gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml hardenedphp iconv icq imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 jabber java jpeg kde libcaca libg++ libwww lm_sensors mad memlimit mhash mikmod ming mmx mmx2 mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nvidia offensive oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php png postgres python qt quicktime readline sdl socks5 spell sqlite ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tidy tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts userlocales vhosts xine xml2 xmms xscreensaver xslt xv zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS

I'm having this problem too. So are all the people here - http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2228592.html#2228592
i am having this problem tooo unfortunately i pasted my error in bug number 86465. Similar problem.
Um... quit trying to use the 2005.0 stuff without understanding how it works... You can't use any portage snapshot other than the official snapshot and expect it to work as the 2005.0 stuff is very divergent from the 2004.3 stuff. Even the Handbook is quite divergent due to this. Switch back to the 2004.3 stuff or wait for 2005.0 to be officially released so you can follow the proper instructions for installation.
Chris, What do you mean? I just followed the instructions in the Handbook. What specifically is 2005.0 material?
