It compiles and run fine. But since at least 5.7.0 xpad needs "ayatana appindicator" (https://ayatanaindicators.github.io/) to display anything as a tray icon. This dependency is not available in gentoo tree. This application is supposed to stay in tray during your graphical session, for my part I consider it a useless if no tray icon, as you don't have "fast access" to your notes. Be careful not to clean 5.4.0 from tree as it is the last known "working version".
