Created attachment 799313 [details] J-Flash License (Version 210702) Hi, I would like to package the SEGGER J-Flash tools and libraries to include them in ::gentoo. A copy of the license that comes with the software is attached. Please could somebody confirm that: * It's okay to include this software in ::gentoo. * The license needs to be added to the @EULA license group (because of section "1. LICENSE AGREEMENT" in the license). * The ebuilds need FETCH="bindist mirror" (because of section "3. RESTRICTIONS" in the license). Thank you :)
As long as we are not breaking the law (e.g. by properly restricting distribution of proprietary software) the Foundation currently has no restrictions on software in ::gentoo. This is separate from the community, but I defer to licenses@ for their opinion.

This shouldn't be a problem, as long as we don't redistribute the distfile. > * The license needs to be added to the @EULA license group (because of > section "1. LICENSE AGREEMENT" in the license). Yes, this should be added to @EULA. The license uses contract law in order to restrict usage of the software. (OTOH, that it says "license agreement" is pretty much meaningless. The GPL-1 also says that it is a license agreement but obviously isn't an EULA.) > * The ebuilds need FETCH="bindist mirror" (because of section "3. > RESTRICTIONS" in the license). Yes, it needs RESTRICT="bindist mirror" because the license doesn't explicitly grant the right to redistribute the software. (Section 3b confirms this, but even without that section we would need both restrictions. Copyright law defaults to all rights reserved, so everything is forbidden unless the license explicitly allows it.)
