Description Robert Pitt 2005-03-23 16:44:29 UTC
Can't add search plugins to firefox. Also always forgets my cookies which I suspect is related. Following the advice on:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/295489

has a fix but going around chmodding a+w everything is not good. FireFox should be configured differently by default. I'd be interested to know how I can stop it dumping what I consider a user feature in a common folder too.

This is a general Firefox problem, which also happens on other platforms, see:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123315

Red Hat has a patch for this, which works for me, maybe we could add this to our firefox-ebuild, as this really is a quite unfortunate little bug...

i really don't understand the problem ( i mean i know that it's becase my user
can't write to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/searchplugins), but i can say
that i have the same version of firefox on my Debian box installed, and it works
without problem, even if i have no write access to the searchplugin folder.

Maybe it help's to look on there sourcepackage.
Here is a link to the package site
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/web/mozilla-firefox
i hope this can help a bit, this is a rely nesty bug

According to the bug report https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123315,
it should be fixed in mozilla1.8beta1.

Firefox 1.5 doesn't have this problem anymore, so I think this can be closed
Comment 5 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-22 18:33:09 UTC
Closing, reopen if this issue still exists with FF 1.5
