kdar 2.0.3 fails with the same error
*** Bug 86551 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
hmm, dar-2.2.1 and kdar-2.0.1 (also kdar-2.0.3) work fine on my env. I don't know how to fix it.
I, too, have the same problem. It has been ocurring ever since the 2.x releases. I have tried unmerging both DAR and KDAR, but that doesn't help.
Probably the dar library should have a "#include <locale>" statement in every header file that uses gettext. If it works for someone, it is probably because the file with the definition of gettext() is included by something else, by I cannot say precisely why it happens.
Please send report to upstream.
The new dar version 2.2.2 seems to fix the problem. Everything works fine now for me.
