Description Michel Paquet 2005-03-20 15:55:58 UTC
When I load with modprobe the dmx3191d module, the module load fine. But when I try to access to the scanner atteched to the card, xsane hang. I try in console to find the scanner (UMAX Astra 1200S) with the sane-find-scanner script and he didn't found anything. Sometime the command just hang instate to found nothing and sometime, he can find the scanner (but not always).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compile your kernel with SCSI and SG hard
2. Make DMX3191D in module
3. restart with the new kernel and lauch sane-find-scanner

Actual Results:
sane-find-scanner found most of time the scanner, xsane hang and after 2 or 3
minute when I try to numerise and the kernel become in panic, all the system
crash

Expected Results:
juste work and stop hang or crash or whatever

I have try all kernel from 2.6.x tree (from 2.6.0 to 2.6.11, vanilla and gentoo-
dev-sources) and he always do the same error. From 2.6.0 to 2.6.9, the kernel
always make a "Kernel Panic". But with 2.6.10 and 2.6.11, the module loaded but
it is when I have to access to the scanner, the system hang and the kernel make
a panic message

Please post the output of "emerge info" to every bug you submit.

Is the system usable after the oops? If so, please attach the "dmesg" output after the oops has occurred.

Please test with vanilla-sources-2.6.12_rc2
Comment 4 Michel Paquet 2005-04-13 17:50:56 UTC
When I apply the patch 2.6.12_rc2 on vanilla-source-2.6.11.7 (from www.kernel.org), I have a lots of errors. That is normal??
Comment 5 Michel Paquet 2005-04-13 18:29:28 UTC

Ne prennez pas attention à mon dernier post... c'est une erreur de ma part

Do not take attention to my last post... it is an error
Comment 7 Michel Paquet 2005-04-13 20:10:36 UTC
I have tested with vanilla-source-2.6.12-rc2...

XSane (0.96-r1) have done a incomplete "preview" of a scan test and always hang, but after he have scanned someting with "preview" fonction. If I click "Scan" before "preview", he just stop responding. And for information, I see this in my kernel log juste after press "preview":
